The July / August 31, 2011 Sketchbook contains poems, art and features by one hundred twenty-three writers from twenty-four countries.

Long time Sketchbook contributor Betty Kaplan suddenly passed away from heart complications on Monday, July 25, 2011. Betty was an accomplished collaborative writer as well as a writer of individual genre; she wrote haibun, haiku, tanka, sijo, renhai, haigay, and Art. She was retired from the Fashion Industry and started to write haiku in the early 1990s. Betty was published in Frogpond, Lynx, Woodpecker, South by Southeast, World Haiku Review, Sketchbook, American Tanka, Simply Haiku, Heron's Nest, and CHO.  Sixty-nine writers have written poems for Betty; read Tribute to Betty Kaplan.

The Haiga featured on the Contents page is "absorbing color" by Emily Romano.

For the September / October 2011 issue, editor Karina Klesko continues the Let US Pray feature.  The goal is to hear from all faiths and peoples on a Global Scale. Editor Klesko says, "The more people who participate and read this feature, the more our hearts will become one. Surely a heart that envelops the world can make changes and differences in lives. We can make a difference and wipe away all the divisions that have arisen because of different belief systems. Let us all love and respect one another in one accord. Editor Vaughn Seward has selected Renhai for the July / August 31, 2011 Sketchbook; the Renhai authors include:  Gillena Cox, TT; John Daleiden, US; Zhanna P. Rader, US; Vaughn Seward, CA. Be sure to read the Renhai notes link at the bottom of each Renhai selection; the notes contain interesting ideas about the rehnai.

Art features in the July / August 31, 2011 issue: Photo Art Gallery by Iolanda Scripca;  Norman J. Olson writes about trips to his two summer Gallery Exhibits: Visiting Seoul and Tokyo - July 2011, A Trip to Miami August 1, 2011, and his Art Gallery.

The winner of the July / August Poem This Picture Contest is . . . Barbara A. Taylor, AU;  read the entire series of ten poems.

The September / October 30, 2011 Poem this Picture Contest is now open; Write a poem in any form for the Picture. Send your entry to poemthispicture@poetrywriting.org  by Midnight, Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

The Book Fair features two books by these authors: Letters to Saïda by Denis Emorine and Rootless Soul Naked by Iolanda Scripca.
