Voices Israel Anthology News

Beginning May, Miriam Stanley, senior editor of RogueScholars.com, was visiting Israel from New York. We hosted her here in Metulla and got together a group of 6 other poets and some spouses. Twelve of us all together. Everyone brought something to eat - home baked quiches, home baked bourekas, home baked granola cookies, home made olives, salads, etc. etc. - it was a deliciously stimulating morning/afternoon a total of 5 hours and no one looked at the clock! - we read poetry around and around, then took a lunch break and continued. Participating were Tom Berman, former Editor-in-Chief of Voices Israel Anthology, Rochelle Mass, Tirzah Ben-David, Lila Julius, Egonne (whose last name I do not know), Miriam Stanley and myself (Johnmichael was visiting his 3 sons who live in London and Ireland). All amazing poets... My dream is to get together a regular monthly poetry reading in this Upper Galilee region as has existed in Haifa, Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem for many years.

Our Voices Israel annual Anthology, Vol. 33, of which I am Editor-in-Chief, is ready. I am proud to say that this year it is over 200 pages, the largest Anthology ever, more than double the previous years. And the poems are wonderful! We have poets from all over the world - Canada, USA, Spain, Sri Lanka, more... Please do submit to next year's Anthology - 1 June to 31 October - I am accepting only email submissions this year unless you have absolutely no access to a computer - instructions for submitting and ordering this year's Anthology are below:

Please note: My address has changed from last year. WE PREFER EMAIL SUBMISSIONS as opposed to the 7 hard copies previously required. Please follow the instructions below as to contact information, etc.

You may send monetary contributions to Mel Millman rather than to me if you are submitting via email. We would love to accept Paypal payments but they do not deal with banks in Israel, though they are most apologetic about this. So cheque or moneyorder it is.

 Voices Israel Annual Anthology

The Voices Israel Group of Poets in English annually publishes an Anthology of poetry.

We are currently accepting submissions for Volume 34 of the Voices Israel Annual Anthology that will appear towards the end of this year (2007). Anyone, anywhere, is welcome to submit a maximum of 4 poems to the Anthology. Poems must be in English but may be on any topic and in any style. Poems preferably should not exceed 40 lines and should be without tricky graphic effects.

Email submissions are recommended this year, from June until end October. Poems should be emailed either as a WORD attachment or in the body of the email. Each poem should have the poet's contact information on the upper right hand side: NAME, ADDRESS, TELEPHONE NUMBER(S), EMAIL ADDRESS. This year we request A SHORT BIO (RESUME) of no more than 7 lines to be included, from both previous submitters and new participants.

However, those poets who have no access to a computer may mail their submissions--each page with poet details as above, and one biography-in 7 copies to:

Helen Bar-Lev
P.O. Box 21
Metulla 10292
ISRAEL
