Correspondent's Report from Israel

Metulla

Dear Family, friends, fellow poets and artists!

To you who will be celebrating Rosh HaShana, I wish you all a good, sweet, peaceful and healthy year. You probably know that we moved to Metulla at the end of January. We are wonderfully pleased in our new house and I have begun a new art style here - born after nearly 2 years of not being able to paint landscapes in my usual watercolours - which I had been doing for 30 years. This new style is coloured pencil with various artists' pens. You may see these on my website under: PAINTINGS, Metulla (also one from the Galiee Section, and one from Jerusalem - there will be more). I am very much into this now and if you check my website regularly there is sure to be at least one new drawing a week - www.helenbarlev.com - the pictures appear now only as thumbnails but with time it will be possible to click on them and get a larger image.

Also, our book, CYCLAMEN AND SWORDS And Other Poems About the Land of Israel is available through us at a reduced rate. The book contains poems by Johnmichael Simon and myself and is illustrated throughout with my paintings and drawings. The publisher is Ibbetson Press in Boston, USA. See website for more information and I thank Danny Simon and Johnmichael for designing and building the website.

Lastly, this is a call to all poets to please submit, by 31 October, poems for the 2008 Voices Israel Anthology. Submit up to 4 poems, not to exceed 40 lines each, name, address, telephone numbers, email address, in the upper right hand corner of each poem. Send via WORD please, by email, to me, and include a 7 line resume. Poets who contribute US $15.00 will receive a copy of the Anthology. Thank you!

Again, Shana Tova,
all the best,
Helen
