Happiness

“One, two, three, four, five.”
Zippy sings prancing along
the curb. He pauses.

He picks up a rock.
A black pebble with white spots
He thinks it is nice.

He tippy-toe-tips
and tosses it up. Up, up
in the air it goes.

“One, two, three, four, five,
Up, up,” he says, “up, up, up.”
He screams. He giggles.

Down, down comes the rock.
He spins. He holds out his hand.
“One, two, three, four, five.”

The rock falls down, down
into his small palm it lands.
“One, two, three, four, five.”

He jumps and smiles.
Along the curb he dances—
he skips and prances.

He screams. He giggles.
A pebble happiness brings
One, two, three, four, five.
