Tanka

though time decrees
that daylight should prevail
a quiet dimming has begun
as a curtain of rain
descends around us

four seasons has nature
through the circling of years
and when the last leaf is gone
memories will be mine
to keep

tears of joy
tears of sorrow
to what do we owe
this occasion
when tears flow

the wind whispers
its hollow sound
as icy fingers
tug at my senses
on this vagabond day

night has fallen
and as I go my way
darkness clouds the distance
yet a light moves with me
guiding my way

Cinquain

mornings
are cooler now
and days have grown shorter
the luster is gone as summer
departs

waves break
along the shore
and sink into the sea
creating a sense of wonder
and joy
