September / October 2009

 

In 2009 Sketchbook with be published bi-monthly: February, April, June, August, October, and December.  The publication date for each issue is the last day of the month.  Submissions are due on the 20th of the month of publication.

The September / October 2009 Sketchbook contains poems, art and features from 101 writers from 18 countries. The Editors extend a warm welcome to all of you!

The September / October, 2009 Sketchbook Cover Art is a loon's cry by Laryalee Fraser, CA.

The featured haiga is now she asks by Doris Kasson.

Look for Eiko Yachimoto's Chapter 5, Installlment 7 of Sugita Hisajo's (1890-1946) haiku development in Hisajo in the Light of English Haikai Movement in the next Sketchbook.

Renhai editor Vaughn Seward has selected twelve Renhai for the September / October, 2009 Sketchbook; the Renhai authors include Gillena Cox, TT; Betty Kaplan, US; Zhanna P. Rader, US; Janice Seward, CA; Vaughn Seward, CA and Janice Thomson,  CA.

Be sure to read the notes link at the bottom of each selection; the notes contain interesting ideas about the rehnai links and various modes of composing a renhai.

The Book Fair features The Reagan Psalms CD by A. D. Winans. If you are looking for a good listen, try this CD.  The Book Fair also includes these new selections:Sea Trails by Pris Campbell, A Thousand Reasons: Tanka by Pamela A. Contributing Editor, Jeff Spahr-Summers, creator and editor of Poetry Victims, presents September / October readers to art by Amy Kohut and zzbaggins, and poetry by Belinda Subraman and J. A. Spahr-Summers.

Sketchbook is now open for November / December 2009 submissions. The submission deadline for this month only is extended to the 25th of December, 2009 for open submissions to the poetry pages. Submissions are open to the General Public. The Editors look forward to reading your poetry and viewing your art. Please join us in our fourth year of publishing Sketchbook.
