Passing The Time/Waiting

outside/ under
the stars
a wind so soft
upon my skin

the gentle kiss of rain
   misting the sky—
   out from darkness
   a mocking bird sings
the rustle of leaves swaying

a bull frog
tends it's pond
reciting poetry
in tongues,
a master performance,
applauded

by waking cicada
chanting their mantra
mirrored in moonlight
the gloss of black stones
     field masters
     beating the hearts
     of slaves

never ending,
cones of fire ants
pyramids built
in bondage

my silent eyes
two visions becoming
one point of view

I love you, moon
each night
I wait for you

petals unfurled—
a trail of wild roses
scent the emptiness

"vade retro me santana—*
my love is for his life, his spirit, his soul"

*get thee, behind me satan
