I Still Love Christmas

A Cinquain Sequence

Christmas, was for me, as a child, smell more than
anything else. My father cooked the ham, my mother baked the cakes. That was a standing order at our house.

The smell
of ham wafts through;
the kitchen door opens
to lace umbrellas over cakes
cooling.

Then, Christmas tree, became my focus. I gape and gape at; I love, Christmas trees. I have fond memories of helping my father put up the Christmas tree, as a youth. In later years, and even more memorable years, I would cut a branch from the guava tree, or West Indian cherry tree, or plum tree from my back yard. Then ,together with my daughter Yanda, and my son Khama, we’d decorate the twig.

A star
Shines from the top;
And lights twinkle below.
Ornaments sway and bells jingle
Noel

Now, Christmas for me, is all the razzle and dazzle, the
parties, the Christmas greetings, the gift exchanges, the hugs, the kisses, the sharing, giving to the poor and underpriviledged, the church services; and all this
because – a baby – Jesus was born in a manger. Yes I still love Christmas

Christmas;
A joyous season
A time to celebrate
The birth of our Saviour – Christ
Jesus

much love
