From The Editor's Desk

The October 2007 Sketchbook is now on-line. This month all readers are invited to participate in a kukai vote for the most significant “night chill” haiku submitted in October. Let your voice be heard: Read the kukai and send us your vote.

 A new feature this month is the Little Black Book, designed as a monthly collection of poems that rejoice in their off beat subjects, their unconventional appearance and form, and their minimal structures.  Read the Little Black Book.

One feature in the October issue is a collection of rengay. The art of Saul Bernstein and the photography of Kevin Ryan are features that will fill your eyes with interest and wonder.

A number of seasonal Halloween poems appear in this issue.

Many other genre of poetry appear in this issue: Haiku, Senryu, Stellarenga, Haibun, Haiga, Ghazal, Sijo, Free Ferse, Fibonacci, Lanterne, Light Verse, and Triolet.

 The editors are pleased to announce that Sketchbook submissions are open to all writers. If you are a first time submitter please include your submission, the genre types submitted, your complete land mail address, your e-mail address, and a short bio in the body of an e-mail; also attach a jpg photo (photos may be sent later if that is more convenient). For examples of bios and photos see the current Sketchbook Author Biography page. The deadline for submissions is the 20th of each month; we have been known to accept submissions after the deadline.  Smile!

 One daily pleasure for us is opening our electronic in-boxes and reading the constant flow of submissions. Poems of the current season are always welcome. As we approach the end of 2007 we send our best wishes for the seasonal holidays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas and we look forward to your artistic endeavours.
