The Mis-adventures
of a Wide-eyed Innocent
Adventure is a
gleaming light that keeps me going like a rechargeable battery.
And I have had an Adventure. It is called moving. In April my
wife and I decided to move from our 25 year home base in the Des
Moines, Iowa area to the west suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. After
my wife accepted a position teaching Special Education in a
middle school and found us a place to live we began to close up
our house, pack our possessions and shift to the Adventure mode
of discovering the delights of a new location in the Valley of
the Sun.
We hired a moving company; they arrived; they packed up our
possessions and told us they would deliver our goods six days
later in Arizona. Alas! We arrived only to discover the moving
company had temporarily “lost” our possessions. Twelve hours
later they called us to say our goods had been found in their
Omaha, Nebraska
warehouse and would arrive in a week; half of our priceless
heirlooms arrived fourteen days later with the news that the
remainder of our goods was on vacation in California and would
arrive in a week. The shipment finally arrived missing seven
boxes which have never been delivered. My computer with all the
Sketchbook files arrived with the flat
screen monitor damaged. After retrieving the Sketchbook
files I finally began to edit the submissions for
the current issue. I have had enough Adventure for a while.
The September 2007 Sketchbook is online. I hope
you enjoy reading the many eastern and western genre featured in
our pages. Now it is time to turn our attention to thinking
about the October 2007 issue and the themes of fall. I look
forward to reading your submissions.
