Meeting Charlie

I find it fascinating that voices do not change. Watching old movies, I always know the actors by their voices even in their different roles and different ages.

Recently, I had a rather disturbing experience. I have kept in touch with a friend by telephone for the past forty years. He came to Florida and when we met, I expected to see the same old Charlie but a little older.

To my dismay, I did not recognize him at all! Yet, when he spoke; there was Charlie, back once again.

early morning
awakened by
a nightingale’s song
