Cinquain

All Hallows Eve

Skipping
across the lawn,
dead leaves dance together—
until the tempo fades as the
moon drops.

 Cinqku

# 15
the first
heavy frost
whitens the lawn—
overnight fall becomes
winter

# 2
muffled
bells echo
across the square—
sepia memories
surface

Quintile

A quintile is an image form I devised prompted by my admiration of the American Cinquain created by Adelaide Crapsey whereby two or three cinquains in their own right are linked to form a common theme in a longer poem.

Like Fading Flowers

Poppy,
Emblematic,
Flower of the field, its
Delicate tissue like far—off
Fallen
with
Dying
Forget—me—nots
In memory fading
As old comrades, one by one
Depart

Tanka

shrieks of the seagulls
die on the inshore breeze
above the still strand—
our twin footprints disappear
as the sunset dissolves

Tetractys

A tetractys has five lines with a syllable count of 1, 2, 3, 4, 10. It is triangular in symmetry, with each line standing on its own. It can be inverted, doubled to extend its length.

Ichthys

White
blossom,
a welcome
Springtime emblem,
the foretaste of succulent fruit to come.
