I’m proud to be in the company of some legends. As some of you know, a poem of mine was set to music by Pulitzer Prize winning composer William Bolcom, and performed at Alice Tully Hall in 2002. Now ten years later, Louisiana State University, School of Music, has issue a CD, An American Kaleidoscope,” Song Cycles of Bolcom and three other composers. My poem “Lady Death” follows three song poems by Oscar Wilde, followed by noted poets C.P. Cavafy, Ezra Pound, Langston Hughes, “ Mark Doty and Kenneth Koch.

From the insert booklet describing my song poem: “Written in a cabaret style, “Lady Death,” features a pulsating piano motive which shows us the strong drive of this unrelenting character, This, in contrast with the chaotic, jagged syncopation, creates the struggle between the seductive Lady Death and her victim.

Some people have asked me how they can obtain a copy of the CD with my poem (see below).
The CD will not officially be out until October 2012, but anyone interested can obtain a copy now by sending $18, plus $2 postage, to the producer. You can contact him at his email: shawnrroy@hotmail.com
