Experimental Poetry ~ Hymn Style

Born Again

When Spring comes again
   not the warmthy...nor the rain
   not the yellow...nor the green
   not the grass or verdant scene;
   not the winds or blossom bright
   not the showers or more daylight:
but hearing creation's new birth
shouted aloud in sky and earth

Brian Strand's Note: This Eight lines down form is derived from the hymnody verse hymn style of Tim Dudley Smith.

Editor's Note: Timothy Dudley-Smith OBE (born 26 December 1926) is an English hymnwriter and a retired bishop of the Church of England.

Born in Manchester, England, he was educated at Tonbridge School and Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was ordained deacon in 1950 and priest in 1951. He served as Archdeacon of Norwich 1973-81 and Bishop of Thetford 1981-91. He retired in 1991 (Wikipedia).

As a hymn writer, has published c. 300 hymn texts (no music, but many to well-known tunes) in four single-author collections, now subsumed into a larger collected edition, A House of Praise (from a Biography).
