A Haiku
Sequence: Summer
Sojourn
Hot sun—
we picnic in the park
sharing food with ants
old Mis’
flowing between the green hills
warm memories
my daughter chases
a summer butterfly—
the grill sizzles
at the ball diamond
someone slams a homerun—
billowing clouds
on the park lake
our two sons wield paddles—
water beetles
without warning
the canoe outing ends—
day turns to night
lightning—
screaming and laughing we run
to the shelter
a short shower—
our children chase the rainbow’s
elusive end
cool breeze—
after the wind and rain
I sip hot tea
on the evening news
images of destruction—
the scent of roses
