stuart z perkoff
never stopped being—
37 years upon the eternal
boardwalk above & everywhere/
whispering warnings of the
craft to those like me whose eyes
can only open halfway & dizzied by
childish expectation at times, but . . .
“she’ll take it back. it’s hers. she wants it back.”
still ringing true.
still need reminding.
still is & will be.
o poet, i am positive those
gulls needed you just as
much as you did them
o poet preaching poet
religion, i believe everything
you've ever said—showed
in flow/
known in soul.
o poet, find yourself a
place to nest along the beach
for the nite. bring tony with ya'
& bury your aching feet under
the coolness of evening sand,
allowing the calming ocean to
tell you of those secrets
again & again & again . . .
