Ekphrastic Villanelle

Karin Anderson, AU

I suggest the music be played before the reading the poem to create the joyful atmosphere a fair can bring.

SPCC Songs – Come To The Fair

Strawberry Fair: A Villanelle

With Spring day her footsteps skip to Strawberry Fair.
Whirly wind whisks her skirt with a shapely leg view
Rouge blush of a maid who weds with tumbling hair~

Her transparent ferris wheel skirt wish-swishes where
Birds trill and tremble trees to flap wings in morn’s dew.
With Spring day her footsteps skip to Strawberry Fair~

Her basket of lush strawberries scents the warm air.
Doves chorus euphony and fetch tit bits to coo.
Rouge blush of a maid who weds with tumbling hair~

She sings “buttercups and daisies” skirt flaring air
And recalls that last year her skirt was see-through too.
With Spring day her footsteps skip to Strawberry Fair~

He tickles her on the whirligig’s giddied flare.
He wins her a teddy bear and knows what he’ll do..
Rouge blush of a maid who weds with tumbling hair~

He whispers “I love you and strawberry scent’s hair
we’ll elope on the ferris wheel ~ wear this skirt too!”
With Spring day her footsteps skip to Strawberry Fair.
Rouge blush of a maid who weds with tumbling hair~
