Haiku

winter dawn
every surface suffused
with rose

a sunless day...
the grey at dusk
crushing

roadside shrine...
a sodden teddy bear leans
against the cross

Tanka

we argue about
the color of the copper
doorknob's patina
what is this necessity of
having to define surprise

candy wrappers
hidden under the bed
the boy
with the parents
on the verge of divorce

cat off sleeping
somewhere else
I put on a second
pair of socks
wishing for spring
