Kids Count 5-7-5 For Earthday!

Earthday Haiku Contest
designed to inspire Love of Earth and Love of Poetry
Kids Count for Earthday 5-7-5
Earthday Haiku Contest 2010 a collaboration for Poetry and earth. The Japan
Festival UK, With Words UK, Sketchbook Haiku Journal, USA and Planetpals
Worldwide have partnered for the planet! Together they are hosting an Earthday
Haiku Contest designed to combine the love of earth with the sheer simple fun of
writing Japanese haiku in English.
According to Alan Summers of With Words "The Haiku Contest 2010 was created to
help families learn to keep the planet clean and healthy! We felt that we would
combine the enjoyment, and a more comprehensive understanding of poetic forms
and environmental awareness, so important today to do our bit in seventeen
syllables. We also aim to promote the introduction of haiku into the curricula
of Elementary and Junior High school, and the equivalent in Britain and
elsewhere."
The contest is open to individual students. They hope to encourage this as a
lesson plan or activity from schools, camps, organizations and homeschools.
Getting kids to think about Earth is nothing new for Planetpals . Planetpals.com,
has been the premier site for earthday and earth content for over 12 years. With
Words has been also been instrumental in bringing the written word to libraries,
