Free Verse

papa Bray from Puako

the old Hawain
did a rain dance ...
and they all blew
across their beer bottle tops
the sound
was like a conch shell of many colors
and it rained..............
their bird baths once again held sky in them...

keepin' the BEAT

out of the cellar
of our venice hideaway
harachis's slappin' down the cobblestone breezeway
finger snappin' the beat
to the beach and the ocean
this same spirit took me to the mountain in Hawaii
next to another lady muse
Pele a spitfire goddess of the volcano
the one the old ones whisper
out of the closet now the words flow
take on the sound of bamboo
lionel hampton in the wind
and the smell of sandalwood

the spirit of Billie
a long ago lady of Venice

wail of a tenor sax

Oil Babble

such importance on words
people in public life
digitalized forever

can't take 'em back
but you can twist 'em
in a circle the other way
infinity ...two loops linking
ah such is the way
of politician lawyers
and real estate land cancer
that splices the tongue
of a black crow
once green wetlands
creosote mud flats
drying in a desert sun
while the wind
winds through
barren toxic shores
and the last tree
struggles...
to grow
in man's mire

On April 20, 2010 The British Petroleum Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded on the Outer Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Mexico unleashing a torrent of oil into the the ocean, a deluge that has begun to inundate the shores, bays, estuaries and other waterways of  America.

Tanka

wake up and smell the roses

on the edge
of a cloud....
the moon shines
through my window
into my dreams

twinkling with humor
in grandmother's
violet eyes

lesson of life's thorns,
where the roses still bloom

young brave

spirit animal....
mountain lion
oh kingly leader
of sleek feline form
touch my heart with courage
then sound the alarm
that i may lead with foresight
assurance bright and true
to carry on the spirit
of strength i see in you
my son

Free Verse

somebody banged my ride

of dealing with
insurance companies
somebody banged my ride
with coolers full
oysters steaks n beer
po-leece n ambulance
and the tow guy
to the top o the mountain
truck on top o tow truck
coolers and contents
a rained on teary eyed
mountain woman….
and jimmy buffet on the stereo-o-o
tow truck sucks up some cinders
and chokes out, half way up
he's kick starting it in reverse
my truck is already totaled
I'm cracking up.........
tell him to level out and start over
he wants to go get HIS truck
no the beer is waiting
campfire 'n food
cold and wet I am
thankful I wasn’t T-boned
and all my troubles over
it's still my birthday no matter what

another truck 4X4
Rose to the rescue
with Opie san, the owner
my great great aunt Opie
memories and a sign
it's meant to be
it's an automatic tho
good for old aged knees
air-conditioned for frequent hot flashes
and a double cab for company
speakers all the way around
and softer seats to go off roading
a guitar pick in the ashtray
God doesn’t close one door
without opening two more
my life gets a good kick start….

thank you credit union ladies
For getting me over
the bumps in the road

nature's paintings

new digs....
with no wall space
pictures to hang
all memories of the past
on the other hand
open windows
fresh air
and a new start
nature's views
god's masterpieces
in every direction

Kyoka

computer lag
lost in space
in the universe of verse
cobwebs grow
in the cosmos
