Celebrating Mother's
Day May 9, 2010
spring rain
her window purple with
irises in the yard
Free Verse
Growing up
Happy am I nowadays
For I can touch her arms
Wash her hair
And gaze into her eyes
For a long time
She cannot hurry any longer
Tied to her bed
There's nothing she must do
And I'm selfishly happy
To have my mummy for me.
Yet,
I run through our garden
And the yard
Taking care of
Children and our home
dog, cat
Vegetables and flowers
And her home
Cooking, ironing
Feeding birds
And loving them all
With a smile
My legs in pain
Thinking over and over again
How for God's sake
Could she do all that
For almost eighty years?
My Mother - Hero
In the heart of
Western civilization
Before giving you
World War Two
They gave you
A hoe
Instead of
A pencil
So you were
Hoeing your
Long, long way
And strong will
I admire you
Mother
You are my hero
And there are
no others
