Tanka

cola cap moons
pressed into blacktop
hold fixed orbits
in the tar baby
trapped southern sunshine

we peel pears
on the back porch steps
hands swarm with bees
who lap the nectar
and leave a tickle

cicada
levered outside husk
ascends afresh
after long slumbers
to soar for a breath

cold seeps
under the door
kettle trills
to rouse one from dreams
of glacial ages

bruise blue sky
stoplights lift and swing
front moves in
lightning strikes reveal
the crack between worlds

bare fruit tree
with one persimmon
fall foliage
not just colored leaves
also their absence

thunder fades
steam clouds billow
from soaked fence
raindrops tap and dance
sun shafts sweep the meadow
