Celebrating Mother's
Day May 9, 2010
The
Best Gift
It didn’t come in fancy
wrappings,
embellished with
ribbons,
but on a simple
sheet of paper:
It was given with love.
It wasn’t store bought
but
personally handwritten,
meant just
for me:
It was given with sincerity.
It wasn’t an impulsive gesture,
but a gift
born of experience,
challenges,
and her own success:
It was given with insight.
It didn’t require a response
or a gift in
return, yet it will be
forever
engrained in my heart:
It was given with understanding.
My mother’s words in simple script,
“You are a good
mother,”
leapt from
the single sheet:
I will treasure it always.
