Celebrating Mother's Day May 9, 2010

Helen

The land flat;
across the paddock
pine trees sigh
a kind of poetry
och ae,
but a far cry
from your craggy hills
o' Scotland.
And yet
you chose this place
as it chose you;
shelter, sustenance, support
love and friendship.
Husband, church
and children chose
choosing each as we chose you;
and each the other.
The pain, the joy,
the reality.
Helen,
I love you mother.

This poem was written for my mother the night she passed away in 1994.
