Lydia Kautz, US

Tanka

Feathers

Blue Jays warm themselves,
fluff their Alaska-lake down
or fly to the hunt
to track seeds in muddied snow
as fresh ice confetti falls.

Prey

Silence falls with night.
Angel wings drop white flakes.
Rushing rivers sleep.
Stags forage beneath deep snow,
forever watching for the wolf.
