Aftermath Of A Storm In Manila

(26 September 2009)

Vanda clusters
soaked in rain water
after the tempest

mute witnesses
of the untold destruction
that knocked at everyone's door.

A visitor in black garment
and fiery eyes
sent shivers

to the infirmed,
the sick, the dull,
the infamous,
the beggars, the hungry,
the famous,
the sons of kings, the mighty...

the innocent lambs
not spared from its steel-hard
fangs that spread lethal venom,
as a spitting cobra to its victims.

The aftermath
is a nightmare
to a million souls
who succumbed to the fire
and were not spared
from the embers of their foibles...

and nature's wrath!

Haiku

October night
not a leaf flapping
not a sound

October night
flying ants join me
for dinner

October night
the eerie feeling
of aloneness

October night
a napping cat curled
at the doorstep

October night
a cup of hot chocolate
stirs my reverie
