B.W. (Before Wireless)

The cycles of the moon
have been with us
since man first crawled
out of the trees.

Staring up through branches
or from the grasslands
our ancestors saw
a common glow,
a friendly face.

Poets and travelers
were and are
never far from home
so long as that satellite
hovered above.

Though it sends
no messages on its own
we can bounce thoughts
off of it.

Some of those feelings
and ideas have surfaced
in like minds in every age
without the need
of a cell phone.

There is no signal tonight.
Do not wait for my call.
Just look out the window,
and know I am thinking of you.

Far, But Not Far Enough

The stars have not changed.
Those twinkling lights
called by different names
in different ages
by different men
have fueled speculation,
desire and legends.
We still can not touch them
when we raise our arms,
though some day we might.
The flicker from the fires
our ancestors huddled by
is still traveling towards
those distant balls of gas
whose nuclear heat
warm unseen worlds
we dream of setting
foot upon.
Our scientists are
impotent shaman
pointing at the sky,
grunting numbers
and spouting theorems.
They can fly farther
than before but not so high
as to touch the stars,
and those of us
without physics degrees
are left only dreams
as were the first men
when they had visions
of heaven.

Immaculate Conception (1)

Every mother is a sacred vessel
carrying the message of God.

Immaculate Conception (2)

every mother is a sacred vessel
carrying the message of god

even when in rough seas tossed
by drugs and alcohol

the word would still be spoken
given a chance

it shall see the light
and utter an immortal cry

clearing lungs of mucus
and changing the world

forever

Immaculate Conception (3)

every mother is a sacred vessel
carrying the message of god
even when in rough seas tossed
the word will be spoken
it comes in a deafening cry
expulsion of mucus from the lungs
and that first breath that says
“shit i'm here”.
find a teet
and make the best of it

Idiom

the French have a saying
but I don't know it
it's in French
and I don't speak French
but I hear it is much the same
as a saying in Chinese
which I also don't speak
but that's okay
I don't really know
what that saying means anyway
