that certain sound

lonesome call
of the wind
outside my door
as if a train sound
winding its way
on through the dark of night
calling my name
beckoning
a new song

for the lady

The Venice Beats
the rhythm
of their words
sound of huarache's
on a misty morning's
wet cobble stone streets

black ink pen
in hand
and a blank page
touching the face of God
their words
echo down
those breezeways...
protesting
for the "Lady"
mans mad anger
looking for another road
slowly ..migrating
to a" mile high mountain"
in Denver
their faces
now etched in stone

in Hawaii
on a six mile high
mountain
a tree
touches
the face of God
a Koa tree planted
for the poets

words falling
blowing in the breeze
filling the page

indian supper

Loke...bring
your sweet someone
and your slack key
guitar self
to my house
for Indian supper
sausage dressing
in a baked pumpkin
oysters on the half shell
wild rice and music
we be blessing the new walls
and foot stompen the floor

a new song

lonesome call
of the wind
outside my door
as if a train sound
winds its way
on through the dark of night
calling my name
beckoning
a new song

Haibun

first night

a home
in the islands
a house
on the mountain
a roof for the rain
to dance upon
no doors
or windows yet
as the mist curls
through the loft
a soft bed
with a view of the stars
the laughter of my son
echoes ...
of a slack key guitar

first night
in my new house
endless possibilities

Tanka

no moon tonight
and the tide is high
time for holo holo*
catch the fish
with the big eye

* the fishermen say they are going holo holo so the fish dont know..hard luck to say your going fishing
holo holo means to go cruizing on an adventure ...go for a ride

Kyoka

be prepared

living on the edge
for so long
suddenly aware
I childproof my home
for my old age
