Rengay Through the Seasons by Masago & Friends

Little Slug

Rengay #40, Early-Summer
by Vaughn Seward (CA)

Oh, little slug,
get moving, go on...
a robin's nearby.

Chicken dinner was ordered —
will it come before breakfast?

Railway crossing —
the other side's lineup
grows longer.

Grocery checkout
queue... "price check,
aisle seven!"

Rising price of gas —
sidewalks grow familiar.

Stone wall —
the setting sun's shadow
reaches a ladybug.

Their Points

Rengay #41, Early-Summer
by Vaughn Seward (CA)

Oh mosquito,
little one in my shower...
cease fire?

A rain drop hits the earth —
the ant changes course.

Hornets under
the back porch — the front
gets busier.

A bee embraces
a rose blossom — the stinger
points skyward.

Sun-facing spider web —
each dew drop, a jewel.

Broad daylight —
a sudden tiny sting,
and no deerfly!

The Rainbow Ahead

Rengay #42, Early-Summer
by Vaughn Seward (CA)

A hermit watches
drops splash on the surface —
koi's pond.

Out in an evening drizzle —
we stop for fish and chips.

Potato patch —
the sound of pitter-patter
on each leaf.

Sudden downpour —
colouring books opened
on the lawn.

Thunderstorm — my umbrella
opens up all too well.

A rainbow across
the road in front of us —
the storm behind.

End Game

Rengay #43, Early-Summer
by Vaughn Seward (CA)

Long day —
the sun goes to bed
after I do.

We get ice-cream cones —
a lick sends my scoop flying.

Rising tide —
a wave laps over the last
of the castle.

A sudden squall —
an outdoor chess match
enters the end game.

At the end of the dock —
he tries hooking minnows.

Awakened at dawn —
the sound of sirens grab
our attention.

Out in the Rain

Rengay #44, Mid-Summer
Hortensia Anderson and Vaughn Seward

At the pond —
we splash sun all over
each other.

A birdbath out in the rain —
each drop bursts into many.

Overflowing tub —
the toddler drenched from saving
"drownded water."

Baby's baptism —
the minister also gets
a christening.

Wind through the graveyard —
an elm scatters shadows.

Poolside repose —
a vodka martini with
a splash of lime.
