Verse
longing
deep in the coldest heart,
locked down tight,
is a longing so deep
that if felt
the heart would die.
in living color
life is painted in
many colors;
some lurid,
others subdued,
in grey and black,
or brown and burgundy.
at times bright red
yet at others emerald green,
cold blue'
and warm yellow;
each plays a part in our pilgrimage,
like wine pressed down
overflowing,
distilled,
dry and sweet,
we each have a chalice to drink
for there is no escape
for the demands of the journey.
About Mark
Dohle, US
My name is Mark
Dohle, I am from a large family of 11 brothers and sisters, of
which I am the third oldest. I was born on 3 DEC 48 in
Steeleville Mo. When ten my family moved to Panama Canal Zone, I
lived there from 58-67, when I graduated from High School. I
joined the Navy for four years. I have only been writing for 10
years, which actually came as a surprise to me, since before
that time I actually hated to write. Now it is a source of
healing for me. I am Catholic and my faith means a great deal to
me. Though I often struggle to live up to the love I profess. At
times this is shown in my poetry and other essays.
This is Mark Dohle's
second appearance in Sketchbook.
