Haiku
two dads
and two baby strollers
Mother’s day
moonlight stroll
through her window
strains of sonata
a morning glory
greets the early dawn
Easter Sunday
hospice window
she gazes at the birds
flying to sunset
the roses bloom
side by side with weeds
her long long absence
her telephone
continues to ring
ambulance sirens
daybreak ritual
to balance mind and body
tai chi devotees
the traffic cop
a little friendlier
Easter morning
Tanka
she shrieks
at the mirror
and cries she is heavy
I reassure her
she’s just healthy
she keeps pushing
the unruly hair
crowding her unmade face
were it as easy
forgetting him
the cactus plant
outlives and outlasts
even man himself
who then is the master
of the universe
again, she pauses
in front of him
in her new sports bra
his eyes remain focused
on his book
sign of the times
random violence
and senseless killings
fill the headline news
throughout the land
