Mamam
Does it matter that
She has had a long
And often hard life?
The matriarch of
An extended family.
Scandalous behavior
Divorced twice
Because unlike
other women in
the family she
would not stay
with the drunk
sociopathic womanizer.
Hit me, demean me
Publicly and I may go to
Jail but you will never
Hit me or embarrass me
again motherfucker!
She loved the nieces and
nephews and her own
children. The grandbabies
brought the greatest joys.
Always there, to be called in
Emergencies, what to do
For colic, head lice, skinned
Knees and fevers, and broken
Hearts. How to save a burnt dinner
Or a fallen cake.
Now all these children
Are grown and starting new lives
She, like the rocking horse,
The toy box and dolls, is
Left on the porch in her chair
Holding a broken doll
Wondering where they all went.
Broken
synapse
Days of neurological
Short circuits, chemical
Synapses mal-functioning.
Nights of strange dark dreams.
Slowly the lights came back on,
The traveling flashes of pain
And muscle spasms receded.
A power surge had blown
Out all the connections and
Connectors. Somehow the
Angel of mental circuitry
Appeared with the soldering
tool of Truth and Light
Searching for the burnt out
chips, replacing them and
dotting them with laser
light gel healing and
sealing all the leaks
Energy back on track,
Aah! Sweet surcease
As pain of madness
Ebbs and balance is restored.

Looking up at the stars
The Seven Sister, Pleiades
Ancient memories tug
At the heart and mind
Something sub-tropical
dusk with two moons
illuminating a beach
flowers, what were they?
tasting like earth honey
and some exotic spice.
Gods! I can’t remember
it passes through my mind
like a tattered wisp of
cloud leaving a longing
for a home somewhere.

Easter
Sunday
Smiling
babies squirming
and blowing bubbles
Toddlers giggling and squealing
In delight with each magically
Painted egg filched from hiding
Plastic eggs filled with jellybeans
Conjuring up memories of Easter
Bunnies and little chicks and ducks
Baskets brimming with cellophane grass
Chocolate eggs, family dinner at Gram’s
The reason for celebration honored
Joy resurrected
