Scenes From a Late Vermont Winter

A Haiku Sequence

Red-breasted robin sings
From the frozen grass

Lilies of the valley flourish
Within their warming tent

Sap begins to drip
From maple trunk to market

Salt-lick sated deer
Peels bark from bare apple trees
Sharpening antlers

An ice-coated willow bends
Near a young poem
Who wishes to kiss the frost
