Mile marker 9

Auntie
Can you see me?
I'm standing on the
Shoulder of the Highway
At Mile Marker 9
It's a power place you know
While my heart cries
Who will I talk to?
The wind blows
through My body,
through my grief
bringing strength
and the memory
of laughter with you
Clearing my heart
Leaving the gift
Of Clarity and Love
Aloha Oe Auntie

Number One

It's your birthday
a sultry evening here
warm on the dunes
wow! that lights up
a chakra and memories
Remember summer nights
on the dunes?
I feel you tugging
at my heart
I pick up the phone
push some numbers
a harsh nasal twang
answers
I reached the stonewall
Hope you had
a happy birthday
GO Racer! Go Racer!

Disarmed

Isn't it amazing
The absolute magic of life
It puts us through the shredder
Grinds us to a pulp
Throws us into a chaffing basket
And blows away the dross
Reduces us to a small lump
to be tempered and become
some sort of Damascean
steel able to withstand it all
only to be reduced
to a small soft lump
when a baby
falls asleep
on our shoulder
a puppy licks our toes
or an old love
says Hello

Pink Pearls and Turtlenecks

It was a lovely evening
I had a pink pearl
You wore a turtleneck
I watched you pull up
Driving your brand
New Thunderbird
I felt like a princess
As you escorted me
blue eyes sparkling
opening the car door
A leather interior
Cruising the drive in
with you
In your blue
Thunderbird
On the Silver Strand
listening to the radio
Watching the sunset
Waiting for the
Moon rise
In your
Blue Thunderbird
I felt like
a Princess

The Osprey

magnificence
and power
perches in the tree
watching the bay
small birds ignored
his eyes on the
fish jumping
sparkling
splashing
water
whsssssh
intention
fulfilled
he soars
in victory
and perches
in the tree

Nothing Lost

Summertime
folks on vacation
a dog barks
distracted by
a bag of fries
someone whistles
thieves swarm
like cockroaches
emptying the house
the old woman
heard the whistle
black and whites
waiting in the alley

Communication Breakdown

I saw the mail truck
Down the block
As I walked back
From the beach
A surge of hope
Rusty old thing
Beach grass and sand
Surrounds the post
Carved like a dolphin
holding it almost upright
I peer inside
Nothing but dust
And disappointment
The phone doesn't
Ring
A loud message
The voice on the
Computer says
Error
file number
000
no
message

 Wind In My Hair

I wasnt cut out to be left behind
not a polly put the kettle on
kind of woman
I was a lover
and a mother
and I had my own
gypsy wailing
in my soul
A boy to raise
Life
adventure
living real
for all the
thrills
laughter
romance
walking out
of the bar with
the trophy guy
on my arm
dancing in the
street
being an
angel of mercy
and always
the
Innocent
falling
for the cowboy
or
the outlaw
I didnt
have the right
glasses
to see the game
never saw
a rule book
til I wrote
my own
moved to my
own arena
Wild woman
in her Power Suit
a Trust Banker
by day
Mystery by night
or maybe
the
Lady from LaJolla
was just
pub crawlin

It was a lovely merlot

After an evening
At the theatre
Chilly with the
Scent of coming rain
In the air
The sound of
Vivaldi
Filled the room
Lightening flashed
And thunder rolled
Quick, come with me!
I thought to watch
The lightening
Oh! My surprise
We were dancing
Wine glasses in
Hand laughing
And toasting as
Raindrops splashed
And mixed with
The wine
It was
A lovely merlot
