Drawing of the scene at The Gas House : Mike & Shanna's Fan Club (formerly Santa Monica Football Team), Shanna (Baldwin) Moore, Norm, Earl, Jimmie (James Ryan Morris), Big Daddy, Paul, Taylor Mead, John Thomas. 1960.
"There was this kid named Mike went to Santa Monica High School. He would bring down all these football players and they'd all fan out and look for me...(lol) that is when Eric wrote that poem about me disappearing into the sand.. That is James Ryan Morris sitting with the beard aka 'jimmy the beard'. Paul was a probation officer that stayed at the Gas House and of course John Thomas, who was always teaching me... Taylor Meade with the daisy for 'The Flower Theif'. I remember each face but the names elude me - good thing I wrote some of 'em down... aloha"

To Shanna
the wind
the sea
sun
air
you
unashamed
blend in
with the elements
become
part of it
and then
disappear
into the sand—eric 1960
This evening endless to its own end
has combined its colors
creating an image on contact
I am lost to its legends
and as I sit by the surf
I am carried into a world
full of deep
down deeper
not drowning
but descending
into life
the life and legend
are mine now
I live here and now I am a legend
known only to me
created by me
therefor must end
for I am
and I too
must end...
—Shanna Baldwin 1960In response to Eric's poem of me disappearing into the sand
