Sijo

I traveled by the river, where your love always flowed
In shrill deafening silence once flushing waters lay stagnant
If my tears could fill your heart would their streams bring life again?

from one small seedling there came two, first came me, then you
each time a simple flower more delightfully refined
and so it will be splendidly, all the way along the vine

under white canvas umbrellas, another era beckons me
while sipping Singapore Slings, I listen to The Charleston Rag
it's hard to imagine that nearly a century has passed
