Broken Heart: A Haiku Sequence

Yvonne Myers (Y.M.)
Zhanna P. Rader (Zh.R.)
John Daleiden (J.D.)
James Dean Chase (J.C.)

1
A broken heart
underneath the faηade,
tears wiped away.                    Y.M.

2
Her broken heart
—
a blossoming cherry branch
touches the window.                 Zh.R.

3
Her bedroom window
—
full of deep scratches
as is her heart.                         Y.M.

4
The heart that once loved,
can it take in again
the wonders of spring?               Zh.R.

5
Miles and miles
of gone, in an already
full heart.                                  Y.M.

6
See with your heart:
the cardinals repair
their storm-hit nest.                   Zh.R.

7
Torn petals
float in the spring brook
—
she loves me not.                     J.D.

8
Can her heart hear
the scarlet roses
unfolding their petals?               Zh.R.

9
This morning,
round the trampled walkway
—
dying violets.                            Y.M.

10
Does her heart ache
when the honeysuckles
perfume the garden?                 Zh.R.

11
A flower pressed
from our anniversary bouquet
—
water now stagnant.                 Y.M.

12
A heart, still tender,
begins to mend
—as warmth melts
icicle daggers.                         J.C.

13
Can her heart feel
a soft touch of the breeze
on a bumble-bee's fuzz?           Zh.R.

14
Each morning
the noisy bird sang to us,
but no longer.                          Y.M.

15
Her heart's still tuned
to the flower tongues...
yet too tired to respond.           Zh.R.

16
The cup he used
hits the floor,
a million pieces.                      Y.M.

17
All feelings dulled
—
not much is left
in her wounded heart.               Zh.R.
