Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

27 January 1756 - 5 December 1791

Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria on January 27, 1756. His life is a fantastic tribute to the art of composing. Much can be learned from him. The story goes that he just sat down and wrote note after note without correction. I thought immediately he must have had a system of some sort. After talking to some friends who are musicians and getting the feeling that there was a higher truth to his music, I came up with the thought that it must relate to mathematics.

The theme of this art piece is just that. Before Leonardo's time there was a mathematical genius by the name of Fibonacci. He constructed many concepts dealing with numbers and the golden section...one of these systems is the sequence 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34..that is to take the number and add to it the sum of the preceding number to get the next...wow !! I thought if that isn't what music is I don't know what is.

I sat down and started to play with these numbers visually and came up with abstract shapes based on them...using these shapes the forms of Mozart began to appear...of all the images I have done in the composer series I feel this is the one that is the most lyrical.
