Tanka

white and pink
and
rose and red:
the peony hedge
of an abandoned house

Haiku

december morning,
wild peacocks roost
among the oak trees

winter sun
too wide to grasp
too dull to burn

the old neighborhood:
street gutters fill
with cherry petals

white tea
white steam
January

Going to the funeral
it snows a little in Illinois;
coming home from the funeral,
it snows a little in Illinois.

how small the world,
a loblolly pine and forsythia
outside the window

January afternoon
laundry hung indoors,
warm and humid as summer

winter moon a train rumbles slowly past

winter skyscrapers—
suddenly Calder's red stabile!
