Haiku Sequence

Winter Night

winter night—
past the black still clouds
a moon floats

a moon floats
on the silent pond—
fallen leaves drift

fallen leaves drift
over the sky's reflection—
rustle in the rush

rustle in the rush
between mallard ducks—
green feathers fly

green feathers fly
at the shotgun sound—
the retriever's leap

the retriever's leap—
sunlight starts to glow
beyond the mountain

beyond the mountain
more mountains,
white peaks lit up

white peaks lit up
one day closer to spring—
a few snowdrops
