Sunny Snows

The Salinas Valley gets its winters, too. Usually, December to January. Last year, jokers tell, it blew through in midweek. Some storms get bad, putting a bra of snow on the twin peaks. But they may come, or may not—most winters, boys dive in the Salinas River in clouds of dust kicked up by dirt bikes.

heat shivers
sand grains crumble
