Haibun

winter winds

autumn was approaching.
she could smell it in the evening air
and hear it with the waning crickets.

soon virgin snow would blanket
her withered garden
& shroud the stone buddha.

late in the wee small hours,
she will wonder

why...

their love didn't last

why...

he had to leave
her heart trembling in the winter winds

why...

her bed has turned cold like the frozen moon
outside her window.

new year's dream...
pouring herself
a blue martini

Free Verse

i want to drag

i want to drag
on him
like a good cigarette
used to taste
after making love
suck the breath
out of him
just for tonight
maybe tomorrow
i found him
swimming
in my secret
reveries
lying still
by flowing
red rivers
sacred waters
baptizing me
over & over
i never learned
to swim
the endless streams
of sadness
never learned
how a heart
can be broken
destroyed
by a look
or lack of
how many
tears
are stored in
an agonizing
mind
tortured
by loveless
days & nights
nights & days
