Pink Sapphire Nights

Another electric night
she said as we walked along the cliffs and
stepped between raindrops and came eventually to a
patch of blue sky where the clouds scattered
and then as I looked up there was a rainbow arcing
overhead as she stood and gazed at me in quizzical
symmetry that corrected my off kilter soul in ways
I still cannot comprehend even now.
She put her hands together and moved like a snake
in the garden of eden as adam watched her move
and the first rainbow appeared over the jungle and
the birds sang in the first song ever heard by man
as he distracted himself with the beauty of woman.
Happiness is an inside job
she kept telling me as I watched friends become shadows
of their former selves trapped in loveless marriages
downhill alliances and broken promises of fidelity
mixed with the slow decay of boredom that sets in when
love becomes a sodden thing drugged and numbed by
the bricks of reality impacting over and over into
the soft underbelly of existence.
Insatiable desire rose in waves of blue fire as she
walked into the room towards sunset wearing the gold heels
fishnet stockings and long black gloves and danced in slow
trance like ripples of wind on water that caught my breath
in my throat and annihilated my reason and logic in
one fell swoop.
My clothes are falling off she whispered
good I said as the stars moved into the strange alignments
predicted by nostradamus so many centuries ago in
eight spoked wheel symbols of swords and flames and
towers falling in crashing tumbling catastrophes of
floods and firestorms of man's inability to stop his
own ruthless cruelty as it careened across the earth
with death and extinction the only lasting legacy for
us to ponder over tea when it's raining outside.
Resolving to make love to her with my words set down
in poems of burning embers of romance I lay down my armor
on the verdant green and placed my sword in the fire pit
to soften the blows of my own doubts for the future swerving
into view and lurching along the rutted track of destiny
on its uncertain way to our doorstep.
The promise of a ring of betrothal was the key that opened
the final gate to the paradise of her soul where roses bloom
in endless rows of red and white blossoms that hid the thorns
of emotion sharp and ready to draw blood as soon as you
get near to them.
Can I let go of my chains
can I grab hold of the pain
and ride it out of town on the way to the temple of
the magician that covers the crypts of despair and all
the bones of the ancients crumbled and buried alive
screaming in the ghostly agony of intoxication that
comes when life is the cord that cannot be cut even
when it has shrunk to a thread that is frayed fractured
and fragmented in ways that even the pyramids
have forgotten.
Three eclipses and one antichrist later
seems to be the best time to tie the knot
she told me as we lay on the bed with crystals
on our chests and bellies and palms and foreheads
invoking the energy of the universe to flow into us
and spark the ritual of union to overturn gravity and
remake us in the image of the high priestess and
the magus juggling symbols of power with ease.
Step into the amber she scratched into the soft clay
in sanskrit while the wind tried to gain entrance to
the bath where we luxuriated in steam and warm
vapors of silver moisture dewy and delicious.
Twenty twelve is the year the masks come off
and the whole truth is revealed at last and the world
is swept free of the debris of the ages at last and the angels
sing the devil's refrain and the hosts of heaven infect the
earth with the final countdown to the thing we have all
feared for as long as man has a memory.
I can still see her eyes glowing in the dark as the final quatrain
escaped nostradamus' lips in words of destruction that could
still be redemption and holy intervention and maybe she was
right all along and our world can be saved by a beautiful woman
in love and ready to give her sweetest treasure to the man
who can prove his might in battle and defeat the forces
arrayed against us all and light the lanterns of passion
that will burn and illuminate our love long into
the sweet revenge of sacred
pink sapphire nights.
