Junicho: The Fullness of the Moon

Karina Klesko, Sabaki

a gust of wind
turning my back on March
to look for crocus                            /abs

around a rain filled pond
barn swallows gather mud                 /gb

a Hopi woman
paints a face
on the Kachina doll                           /kk

little girls give each other
a pedicure                                      /abs

many fresh tracks
criss-cross the drifted snow,
wolves howling                                 /gb

an army-green pickup truck
speeding south                                 /kk

pregnant again!
he buys me sour pickles
before I ask                                     /abs

tempted by shadows
shimmering in the heat                      /gb

on the lawn
a gaudy plastic bumble bee
spins its wings                                 /gb

the book's flyleaf:
unrestrained criminal minds                 /kk

Lady Liberty
the fullness of the moon
rests in your crown                           /kk

putting on a new sweater
to view the trees                             /abs
