Light Verse

Happy Trio

A woman and her dog
(A mongrel, black as coal)
Once asked the shining moon
To go out for a stroll.

The moon
it led the way,
The woman sang a song,
The dog just wagged its tail
While sauntering along.

They savored it so much,
That now, 'bout every night,
They walk their fav'rite path
To mutual delight.

And if the moon's not there,
The woman and her dog
Sit dreaming without end
Of their celestial friend.

My Shadow

My shadow hesitated:
To follow me or not.
It dragged its feet behind me
While staggering a lot.

You'd think it drank some vodka
Together with me, when
I visited a tavern
This afternoon again.

I talked with it a little,
We also sang a song.
My walk was jolly happy
And did not seem that long...

To have your own companion
Of pleasant mood and deed
When going home for supper

What better do you need?

Beneath the Fog

There on the street,
Somebody's dog
Eyes walking feet
Beneath the fog:

Dark feet or fair,
Some big, some small,
Some plainly bare

No shoes at all.

Somebody's dog
Sits on the street
Beneath the fog,
Eyes walking feet.

beneath the fog
feet going this way
and that way
