My Stick

Here’s
my
new
stick:
hand-
carved,
thumb-
thick
red
oak –
arm-
long;
quite
light
though
strong;
smooth,
straight –
just
great.

A Stick Verse Contest

Write your triolet/limerick
In the shape of a walking stick;

One one-syllable word per line,
And it does not need to rhyme.

Send a buck for every word.
The longest “stick” gets The Award.

All the entries will be put
In a lovely little book.

Want to get a few? Just holler.
Every page, only a dollar.

Great as Christmas present too—
We’ll be darned if that’s not true;

There is simply nothing greater.
Rush your “poles” to Poet Rader. :)

Hear Ye!

Hear ye! Here’s a competition
For the poets of ambition!
To receive some recognition,
Rush your bucks with your submission.

Every amateur or bard—
Free verse, rhymed or avant-garde,
Write your poems on a card.
All these rules aren’t really hard.

Let me show you how it’s done.
Here’s my effort number one:
POEM. POEM. Isn’t it fun?
Fabricate them by the ton.

Now, two poems cost ten bucks—
Never mind if each one sucks.
It's okay if rhyme is lax,
Mail your entries and relax.

Here’s my effort number two:
POEM OLD and POEM NEW,
POEM YELLOW, POEM BLUE…
(Tell your shrinking purse adieu.) :)

Happy Birthday to Me

Today I turn… well, something seven.
I feel like nine though, or eleven.
My health is great, I’m energetic,
My looks… not ugly (good genetics).

I love my kin, they like me too.
I’m always happy, never blue.
I like to garden, write and read.
What else, dear madam, do you need?

What else? I must confess, a lot!
You’d better ask what I need not!
But most of all, if I may say,
Many returns of this spring day;

Also success, more love and such.
You do not think I’m asking much?
But then, I'm lucky I’m still here.
So, happy birthday, Zhanna dear! :)
