Sketchbook

Louis Osofsky, US

Tanka

headphones
block up my ears
nipping in the bud
the creation of thoughts, like
a contraceptive device

remembering
our ups and downs
you're quiet
perhaps, we had only hope
on a downward slant

envying
a free thinker
is what you wanted
will you ever
listen to me, again

fluttering
sparrows gather
i'm dizzy
remembering the past
there's nothing but dreams here

fumbled with your coat
allowing the breeze to pass—
you blush and unfold,
just enough to freely show
why it is I shyly ask

the dust
on the second bed pillow
was kept
in its place
waiting for you to brush it

sad and
hunched before the game's end
in the stands
i revisit
the very moment we met
