Prayer for Rain

The rain barrel is dry.
The clouds refuse to cry.
A woman weeps in vain
And prays again for rain.

The earth has turned to dust.
The crops are brown as rust.
The farmer shakes a fist
At clouds that don’t exist.

When thunder rends the night
Folks dance with sheer delight.
The sound of rain is manna
To farm folk in Savannah.
