Praise of Music
They
sing to the tambourine and harp,
And rejoice to the sound of the flute.
Job 21:12
A youth, blind and mentally challenged,
dozes in the pew, unaware of sermon or prayer.
All at once, organ music bursts forth.
He springs alert. Body throbs to the rhythm,
fingers pound imaginary keys,
pluck imaginary strings.
Let us praise composer and lyricist,
the musician that breathes life into notes,
the voice that lifts us beyond ourselves,
that kindles our souls.
