Early April Tango (2)

 

squirrels in every direction,
cream, russet, gray,
golden brown. Night
black. Squirrels in
the arms of every tree

maples with tiny
starbursts of blood,
red blooms

oaks still with
last year's leaves.
Magnolia's dripping

heavy waxy flowers
tinged with ruby

EARLY APRIL TANGO

woodpeckers on the
thick bark of

tulip poplar. Two
collies on the

lush carpet of
green. Along

the shadowed
train a man with

three old huskies
moves slowly

as if moving
along a

holy trail
